About the Foundation

Our Vision

To provide basic necessities for public school children as well as improving parenting skills in order for the children to be successful in school and to expand professional development opportunities for educators.

What?

Established by the North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE), whose membership is comprised of more than 70,000 active and retired educators across the state, the NC Foundation for Public School Children (NCFPSC) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization chartered in December, 1995.

Why?

The NCFPSC was created to maximize the effectiveness of the public school system in educating all children.

How?

Using a comprehensive, people-centered approach, the Foundation has developed three primary programs to address the needs of children, parents, and educators:

  • The Student Support enables teachers to respond to the most basic needs of under-privileged children immediately – usually within 48 hours or less. A toll free telephone call is all that’s necessary to facilitate the purchase of clothes, shoes, eyeglasses, school supplies, or any other basic need for any student, ensuring an equal opportunity to learn.
  • The Parent Academy will develop and implement educational programs to enhance the skills of parents, improving their understanding of the public school system and their ability to assist and support their children. The Parent Academy also offers parent involvement grants.
  • The Center for Excellence in Teaching will provide staff development opportunities for teachers and other educators to supplement existing programs. The Center also offers a professional development grant that can be awarded to low wealth schools and school districts.
